MICHAEL CAINE
Gold Angel Winner
Most critics agree that Michael Caine, veteran of 72 films, barely edged out Kermit The Frog for acting honors in The Muppet Christmas Carol.
In a surprising vote that shocked the Motion Pictures Academy, Excellence In Media's members chose The Muppet movie as one of the best of the year.
"The movie left you feeling good, up on a cloud," said Mary Dorr, producer of the Angel Awards. "The story told you that even the meanests of old misers
can change, and that good people struggling to keep afloat can help transform this tired old world." In an unusual adaption of the Charles Dickens'
classic, Caine plays Scrooge, and Kermit, Bob Cratchit, with Miss Piggy, the onetime threat to Madonna, as his wife.
Academy award winner Paul Williams
wrote the songs. This is a presentation by Walt Disney of a film by Jim Henson Productions, directed by Brian Henson, son of the late Jim Henson, from a
screenplay by Jerry Juhl. Miles Goodman composed the original score. Frank Oz served as executive producer, Brian Henson and Martin G. Baker, producers,
and Jerry Yuhl, co-producer.
