From humble beginnings the name Carl Karcher will go down in the history of our time as one of the foremost business geniuses.
He bought a hot dog cart in 1941 for $326 (borrowed), and today his various companies employ 67,000 people in 4000 restaurants that earn almost two
billion dollars every year. It's not these statistics that establish him on the American scene.
He has offered a helping hand to scores of organizations and many individuals. He has lived his faith on a scaled no one ever dreamed possible.
He has been a supporter of Excellence in Media and all we stand for. He has served as a presenter, putting into action his beliefs.
He was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He quit school at the eighth grade to help his family who were farmers. He worked 12 hours a day, six days a week,
for $18. He migrated to California where he worked in a bakery wrapping bread. In 1956 he opened his first Carl's Jr. restaurant and in 1991 he and his
wife Margaret celebrated the 50th anniversary of their business. Carl and Margaret are the parents of 12 children, 48 grandchildren and 23 great-
grandchildren.
